Job Description
The Tutor supports the mission of TRIO Upward Bound by providing academic tutoring, mentoring, and positive role modeling to high school students. This position enhances student academic success, personal growth, and college readiness through individualized support during after-school tutoring sessions, monthly Saturday sessions, and other program activities as assigned.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Academic support and mentoring
Documentation and record keeping
Program support and events
Please note: This position will work at Two Rivers High School and South St Paul High School.

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and maintain records and documentation.
Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to program participants.
Ability to provide remedial tutoring at an elementary or secondary level in academic areas, e.g. mathematics, writing, computer skills.
Preferred Qualification
At least one year of experience working with high school students.
Knowledge of challenges facing first-generation and income-eligible students.
Familiarity with college entrance exams (ACT/SAT).
Experience with TRIO programs or personal experience as a first-generation, low-income student, or similar background.
Other Requirements
Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods during tutoring sessions, Saturday sessions, and program events.
Frequent movement between classrooms, offices, and activity spaces in school and college settings.
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying instructional materials, testing supplies, or light equipment (typically up to 25 pounds).
Ability to work in a variety of learning environments, including classrooms, libraries, computer labs, and event spaces.
Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via electronic platforms.
Must be able to maintain visual and auditory attention to monitor student engagement and provide academic assistance.

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
This position will be work for an average of 5-10 hours a week during the academic year (September - June). Work hours may vary from week to week based on program event calendar.
Afterschool program hours:
Monday/Wednesday: 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Two Rivers High School
Tuesday/Thursday: 2:30 - 4:30 PM at South St. Paul High School
Monthly Saturday Academies typically run 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Location varies.
There is the possibility of adding additional hours by providing virtual tutoring sessions in the evening by student appointment.
