Job Description

Job Duties :

Shuts off and turns on water services for delinquent collections, new customers and final meter readings

May be required to obtain special water meter readings, customer premises investigation including removing and setting of water meters and repair of the same

Performs any duty necessary to maintain the efficiency of automatic meter reading systems, but not limited to installation and repair

Assumes responsibility for all departmental equipment and property assigned or issued for his/her use

Performs such other duties as may be required by state law, city ordinance or departmental policy and procedure

Must attend seminars, meetings, and training sessions, and be able to pass the required tests

Responsible for all verbal and written orders issued by superiors and to all work assignments transmitted to him/her by authorized personnel.

Performs other work as assigned by supervisory staff

May be required to perform snow removal

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of appropriate methods of lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds

Knowledge of pulling, and/or pushing heavy items up to 130 pounds

Must have the ability to communicate by radio

Must safely and legally operate city vehicles

Requires ability to drive a vehicle, sometimes for extended periods of time

Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with the general public

Must be pleasant and courteous

Must perform assigned duties with significant independence

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and to restrict the use of such information to work duties

Requires ability to prepare legible documents

Requires ability to speak fluent English to citizens and others and to be able to understand the English language when spoken to

Requires an individual to speak clearly and have normal hearing (hearing corrected to within a normal audible range) for direct and telephone contact with vendors, the public, and other employees

Requires the ability to hear in order to recognize human speech, commands, orders, instructions and noises from the public

Requires ability to attend training, meetings, schools, etc. which may require travel and staying outside of Quincy

Requires ability and desire to follow the Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures of the Central Services Department

Must be able to successfully complete the training program prescribed by the Director of Central Services or City Administration

Must be familiar with all areas of Central Services compound

Requires ability to read and understand written communications in the English language and to be able to write and be understood by citizens, supervisors and peers in the English language

Must be able to work in inclement weather

Must be able to walk on different surface types

Must be able to walk and stand for extending periods of time

Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, tug, pull, and reach overhead

May be required to climb out of a confined space area

Must be able to get into and out of a vehicle several times a day

Must wear proper safety gear and equipment suitable to job being performed

Must attend required safety training for duties performed

Must be safety conscious

Must possess ability to follow instructions

Must have ability to understand and execute moderately complex oral or written directions and to prepare clear and comprehensive written reports if needed

Requires ability to answer, talk on, and listen to telephone and telephone conversations with supervisors, peers, and the public

Tasks requiring walking (including stairs), manual dexterity, repetitive hand and arm movement, driving a car, dump truck, tractor, and any other equipment as directed

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements :

High school diploma or equivalent

Must possess or have the ability to obtain an Illinois Class B CDL license with airbrake endorsement
