Job Description



AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineering II in Tampa, FL.

Job details:

  • Prepare bridge development reports and type size and location reports, which require analyzing different options and evaluation results to choose the best solution using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions

  • Perform final design calculations for bridges including flat slab, prestressed beams, and steel beam superstructures using:

    • Mathcad worksheets

    • Bentley's Conspan

    • MDX steel software

  • Conduct calculations for Bridge Substructures including end bents, intermediate pile bents, rigid frame piers, and hammerhead piers using programs such as:

    • Bentley's RC-Pier

    • BSI's FB-MultiPier software

  • Ensure all designs conform with the AASHTO Design Code

  • Prepare and check final design calculations for walls including:

    • Cast-in-place concrete walls

    • MSE Walls

    • Temporary sheet pile walls

    • Tools used: Excel spreadsheets, Mathcad worksheets, CivilTech Shoring Suite

  • Perform final design calculations for miscellaneous structures such as:

    • Traffic signal mast arms and strain poles

    • Sign structures (monotube and tri-chord trusses)

    • ITS DMS structures and CCTV poles

    • Designs coordinated with Geotechnical Engineer recommendations using Mathcad worksheets

  • Perform quantity calculations for bridges, retaining walls, and miscellaneous structures

  • Review shop drawings against submitted signed and sealed drawings to ensure concurrence

  • Work on large, complex Design-Build bridge projects

  • Review multiple iterations during preliminary design based on the Contractor's means and methods to arrive at the best solution

  • Coordinate between multiple offices during final design

  • Typical complex bridge projects include segmental bridges, extradosed bridges, and cable stay bridges

  • May telecommute

Qualifications



Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.

Position requires experience in the following:

  1. Structural Analysis and modeling software including STAAD Pro, SAP2000, Abaqus, MIDAS CIVIL, Matchcad, spColumn, or Open Bridge Designer
  2. Structural Drafting Tools including AutoCAD, REVIT, or MicroStation
  3. Structural engineering code and regulation, including AASHTO LRFD, ACI 318, ASTM, or FHWA
  4. Bridge design including prestressed concrete girder bridges, concrete multi-column bents, or hammerhead piers
  5. Design of cast-in-place concrete cantilever retaining walls, cantilever and tie-back steel sheet pile walls, gravity retaining walls, or mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls
