JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to read water utility meters on an assigned route, maintain electronic and metering equipment, install meters and backflow preventers, and investigate problems with unusual meter reads.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Drive assigned routes; reads meters throughout service territory; utilizes automated meter reading systems and equipment; and recommends route alignments to improve reading efficiency.
Performs audits for out of range, high usage, low usage, and possibly stopped readings for residential and non-residential metered accounts.
Repairs or replaces registers; replaces metering equipment.
Responds to customer complaints and questions; investigates water leak issues; advises proper course of action; and makes special readings as necessary.
Troubleshoots meters and electronic end points for automated meter reading (AMR) systems; performs needed repairs, replacements, and other maintenance.
Installs new meters; removes and validates old meters.
Assists backflow installations, cleans out meter boxes; and replaces meter boxes and lids that are damaged.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
Performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High school diploma or equivalent; at least six (6) months of work experience in any field required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
Georgia Backflow Prevention License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with some lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Tasks involve some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and which may involve some carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.
