Primary Function:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this position is tasked with designing, promoting, and implementing programs and services that contribute to student health, safety, welfare, and overall student life outside the classroom. The Director will act in a leadership capacity within Student Life, nurture the development and oversight of a healthy, resilient, and flourishing community, as well as engage in critical incident responses.
The Director will oversee the processes and procedures of the Code of Conduct. This position coordinates the resolution process and monitors the documentation of student violations of the Code of Conduct, including conducting educational conferences, hearings, and issuing monthly community reports.
The Director works in collaboration with colleagues to develop and implement an integrated, public health effort to reduce alcohol and other drug harms within the undergraduate community and to foster positive culture change; supports the creation of more low-alcohol and no-alcohol social events; provides context-appropriate education to colleagues and undergraduates; trains and supervises students in support of this work; and assists in revising and implementing relevant University policies.
This position works with considerable independence and self-direction. Only the general direction and scope of the work to be accomplished are discussed with the supervisor.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Departmental Management
Exercises primary authority for the Code of Conduct, resolution procedures, and outcomes.
Participates in policy planning, articulation, implementation, and review of issues relating to student affairs.
Recruits, trains, and advises the College’s hearing boards to promote a fair and consistent disciplinary process.
Educates and trains resolution officers in the Code of Conduct process and procedures.
Ensures the resolution process supports student learning. Collaborates with student leaders, including proctors, recognized student organization leadership, and team captains.
Builds and maintains relationships with key campus partners to develop programming that highlights the College’s Community of Honor and links these expectations to student conduct.
Coordinates, updates, and publishes the EQB: The Guide for Living in Community, including the Code of Conduct.
Serves as an advocate for students and articulates interests and issues on their behalf in accordance with the mission of the University.
Writes and maintains policy through the management of online resources associated with the communication of conduct to the community.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Dean of Students Responsibilities
Serves as a representative of the Dean of Students Office as needed on various University committees and represents the Dean when necessary.
Serves on call to respond to university emergencies.
Serves on the CARE Team as a case manager to support students experiencing challenges or other crises that may interfere with their overall well-being.
Assists the Dean of Students Leadership Team in planning, organizing, and evaluating the mission, goals, programs, and services of the student life division.
University Collaborations
Collaborates with key campus partners, including the Dean of the College’s Office, Greek and Student Involvement, Residential Life, Athletics, Human Resources, and Title IX.
Provides context-appropriate educational programming for students at all stages of their undergraduate career, giving them relevant information and skills for understanding policies and procedures, reducing Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) harms, and building a positive community. Supplement existing required education with more advanced optional components. Works with administrators to develop assessment tools and metrics to determine the effectiveness of programs aimed at reducing high-risk AOD behaviors.
Judgment Required:
Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Directly prepares the budget for the program and has full responsibility for planning, forecasting, approval, and balancing the budget.
Personal Interaction/Communication:
Student Contact: Daily: activities include curricular, extracurricular, disciplinary, counseling, etc.
Internal: Frequent: providing information, participating on committees
External: Extensive involvement with parents, alumni, governing boards, and other institutions
Education:
Minimum Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, or a similar field in a traditional academic setting.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, including public speaking,
Familiar with web-based communication and social media,
Proven ability to design, develop, implement, and assess context-appropriate programs based on current research.
