Blackout Baking Co. is a woman-owned local bakery specializing in bite-size gourmet cookies. We are a growing company that ships cookies nationwide and are looking for badass, dedicated, energetic, and ambitious individuals to join our team.

At Blackout Baking Co. we strive to create BLACKOUT worthy cookies that bring us back to our childhood, but push boundaries with new flavors, textures, and forms. Perfect for gifting and events, every cookie we make is unique. There is an inherent obsessiveness that goes into every detail; From the texture, flavor balance, shape of the cookie, packaging, etc. We bake everything in-house from our own recipes using high-quality ingredients.

 

Position Description

This position is located in Oak Park, IL. The Barista will be responsible for the execution of all drinks for in-house customers and takeaway orders. This is a fast-paced role that combines precision and detail for the craft while providing great customer service and being a brand ambassador for Blackout Baking Co. The effectiveness of this position is measured by the customer service provided, quality of the products produced, the timeliness in which they are produced, level of teamwork demonstrated, cleanliness, and work organization. The ideal candidate is friendly and people-person, proactive, hardworking, energetic team player, and likes a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide awesome customer service as a brand ambassador for Blackout Baking Co.
• Dialing in coffee to the best tasting parameters (and tasting those parameters daily)
• Create beverages to order in a timely manner and with a high level of consistency to meet standards
• Identify customer needs and make recommendations for new products
• Understands and complies with the menu, standards, and procedures of Blackout Baking Co.
• Complete shift checklists and maintain accurate inventory
• Properly store, label, and package finished product
• Set-up and cleanup of barista space including sanitizing, dishes, and mopping
• Responds positively to regular feedback given by the Manager on Duty
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions
• Café cleanliness and maintenance
• Assist with all other tasks, as needed

Qualifications:

• Punctuality
• 1-year of coffee experience preferred
• 1-year of food service experience preferred
• Strong desire to exceed customer expectations
• Ability to follow instructions and effectively complete tasks in a timely manner
• Ability to work on a team and individually
• Effective and positive communication skills
• Attention to detail, ambitious, and self-starting
• Ability to read documents such as safety rules, recipes, instructions, etc.
• Knowledge and passion for coffee, with a desire to learn and grow within the company
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs
• Standing for extended periods of time (4 hour intervals)
