Position: Art Instructor Substitute

R e p o rts to: Program Supervisor or Lead Art Instruct or

D e p a rtm e nt : ECF Art Centers

L o cation: All Art Center Sites , minimum of availability at one of the three of ECF' s s tudio s.

F LS A St a tu s: Non - E xempt

Pr og ram Hour s : Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Minimum of two and a half week days of availability to pick up or work sc heduled shifts . Work schedules a re c r eate d one month in advance. Guaranteed minimally 10 work hours available per week, with hours typically not to exceed 28 hours per week.

Position Summary

Under superv isio n of Program Supervisor, the Art Instructor Substitute will teach art to artists (adults with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and intellectual disabilities) in the ECF Art Centers . This can include but is not lim i ted to the following : painting, d rawing, mixed media , fibers. I mplement special education and behavior treatment plans. Work with assigned ECF Artists for sched uled shi ft , as assigned by Program Supervisor, Lead Art In stru ctor, Case Manager or point p ers on as designated by Program Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Implement artistic , educational, and behavioral support plans for assigned consumers, r e ferring to cons umer's IPP, and as directed by Program Supervisor and Case Manager. Ensure ECF Artist's w e ll - being during operating hours of the Art Center, whi l e on the prem i ses, and out in the community. Maintai n case notes as needed during scheduled shift and submit these notes to Pr ogram Superviso r and, or Case Manager at end of work shift . Participate i n meetings and other in - services trainings as assigned, monthly. Provide supervision d ur ing artis t s' arrival, departure, and lunchtime as assigned by Program Supervisor, Case Manager or designated point person.

· Give instruction in the proper use of materials, care, and protection of artwork . Ensure the safe use of equipment, including basic safety measu r es to be used when working with various tools , machin es, and materials, sa fe lifting procedures, etc. Monitor artists throughout their entire art project s during scheduled s hift. Assist and instruct on projects assigned by Program Supervisor, C ase Manager or point person as designat ed by Program Supervisor.

· Set up/prepare equipment to be us ed daily and maintain equipment. Ensure all art equipment is proper l y used and maintained by artists and assigned st udio area is maintained and clean.

· Organize artists' portfolios by properly labeling and storing artwork in the appropriate areas, as assigned by Program Supervisor, Ca se Manag e r or point person as designated by Program Supervi s or.

· Participate in staff meetings to identify and implement artistic , educational, p syc holog ical and social objec t ives for each artist. Consider add ressin g the n eeds of culturally a nd lingui stic ally diverse artists. Implement se rvice s and supports in accordance with Lanterman Act and Pe r son-Centered Think i ng Practices.

· Follow appropriate protocols and policies to assist artists during any incidents or se i zures. Employ NCI procedur es as needed to assist artist s who are exhibiting aggr essive behavior. Adhere to ECF's Illness and Injury Pr eventio n Safety Program and follow EC F guidelines for reportin g medical emergencies, suspected abuse or neglect and unusual incidents to case management staff and supervisory staff. Imp l ement First Aid/CPR as necessary. Assist artists with personal hygiene needs including illness, and incident s of incontinence.

· Be a vailabl e to help p rom ote the Art Centers during work hour s. T his includes, but i s not l i m it ed to, info r ming the publi c of the Art Center mission and services when the publ i c is touring Art Center facilities, as king que st ions during events, or inquiring about how t hey can su pp ort the program. Su ppo rt ECF Art Center events and program s through distribution of mate ri a l s and info r mation to a ll inte r ested parties.

· Staff and superv i se special exhibi t s featuring EC F artists' work at va r ious locations and times. Assist in organizing a rt shows and event s whi c h may include matting, frami ng , i nstallation and tea r down of shows. G r eet the public and assist artists with presen ti ng and discussing their work with the public .

Qualifications

E du cati on / Li c en ses/C ertifi cati on s : Bachelor's degr ee an d one demonstrable art s ki ll.

Experie n ce: Six months in any combination of the following: studio work , teaching (including undergrad TA positions), work on public and privat e art pro jects, art installations, w o rk in art museums, or any ot her dir ect ly related experience.

 · Knowledge in one art specialty area . 
· Skills nec essa ry to ass ist artists in carrying out their art practice and art goals, may include
but is not limited to te a ching, facilitating, guiding, encou rag ing, listening, ad vocating
· Effective verbal and written communica t ion skills to teach adult art i sts
· Availability to teach all artists in the Art C ente r .

Requirements

· Driving is an essential function of this position. Proof of valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of state-mandated car insurance, and insurable driving record are required. While driving for work, should a need arise, the employee’s insurance is deemed primary and ECF’s coverage is secondary.

· Submit Portfolio of completed work.

· Provide evidence of a negative TB test.

· Obtain and maintain NCI , First Aid and CPR certification.

· Ability t o u se public transportation or personal vehi cles and or drive the company vehicle to tran sp ort artists for comm u nity outings.

Work Environment

T his is a program for adults who have varying deg r ees of learning, beha vio ral , emotional, and developmental disabil iti es. Em ploy ees may enco unt er art is ts who are in crisis, exhibit in g emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner . Exp osur e to odors from acrylic paint s, oil base paints, and cleaning and mixing solutions; fine debris from ceramics ; mild noise from the k i ln and from inst r uctors and artists interacting in an ope n space. Environment may includ e frequent in ter r uptions, l oud noise, vary i ng indoor temperatu res , and drafts . Exposure to changes in temperature and wea t her conditions when travelling to art exhibi ts, other ECF sites, etc.
